Shopee Piala FA 2019: Klasiko FC An Overview Journey

The integration approach by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) to give professional opportunities to community-social teams to compete in the Malaysian FA Cup (Shopee Piala FA) has to be commended. Dreams of many, wanting to be a part of the professional football landscape is within reach. And the claim of the underdog becoming Malaysia FA Cup winners is alive and possible.

Klasiko FC was established back in 2014 by a group of friends who just wants to play football, with dreams in their collective hearts and minds that they can go far. Five years later they have competed at every level in community-social football across Klang Valley. Always competitively striving against any opposition that comes in their way, in the Klang Valley League (until 2016), Kota Damansara Premier League (2017 - 2018), Selangor Champions League (2016, 2017), Shah Alam M5 (2018), and recent 2019 edition of the Malaysian FA Cup.

My first memory of seeing Klasiko FC was back around 2014-2015 New Years, if I recall at Kuala Lumpur FA Football Centre, Taman Melati. They recorded a 4-1 victory, if memory serves me right. They had an outstanding midfielder, Qader pulling a lot of string in the middle of the park.

Then they went on to compete in the inaugural Selangor Champions League (SCL) in 2016. Where they fell just short against SKJ. Than qualified for the 2017 SCL edition via the Kota Damansara Premier League (KDPL) in dramatic fashion against Paya Jaras Hiliran FC. For 2018, was a competitive year, however, they fell short to qualify for SCL and they fell short of one point to claim the Shah Alam Football League Championship.

It is commendable that despite setbacks in their journey towards accolades they kept on going. A great strength that Klasiko FC always has been their steady drive. Not many teams have that, and they belong in an exclusive limited community-social clubs of teams that has that tenacious trait.

They take on the challenges as they go on in time. Despite being intimidated against a team that won heavily in the qualifying round of the Shopee Piala FA. They trust that their squad with their skill resources that they posses can play against the favourites. And they did just that on the night. Going toe to toe against Batu Dua FC with a commendable fighting showcase that won many hearts at the stadium, on the live stream, and football community. In spite of the 2-1 loss. Their collective performance has notified other teams across the Klang Valley that they mean business going forward.

In summary, they have gone through a lot together. And they can still strive forward. Klasiko FC reminds me of this analogy. By being daring is like playing chess. Chessmen moved forward. They may be beaten, but they may start the winning game for the team. All the best on the next series of challenges Klasiko FC, Forza Klasiko!
