What is your first memory of a football jersey? Or what is your fondest memory of a football jersey? Did you father or mother purchase that first jersey? Maybe from a team that they support together? Or maybe one was a Kedah fan and the other was a Terengganu fan? So that first jersey took awhile. Or maybe it was your grandfather who was from Negeri Sembilan who gave your that first jersey. Is this my story? Maybe yes, maybe no.
The most important things for the football industry from what I have learn when studying in Europe is that. Families will make a point to get their children their first jersey. The first grassroots signs that the industry is a developed and well appreciated culture in the community throughout the jerseys.
Here in Malaysia? Sadly only a rare few. I am happy that I was able to attend Selangor Football Day and visit the Selangor museum that had special jerseys as well as attended the 2019 Jersey Collectors event in Bangi. Credit to good people.
Magical to see such collection and appreciation of football memorabilia that unites fans and communities with fond memories of the beautiful game. No matter how bad a football season went.
I wish that some day I am able to collect them all and build a simple museum for fans all over the world to see the history of Malaysian football. Told through these magical fabrics. That would have countless stories. Of how they were purchased, the tears of joy and sadness during a match, or more. Insha Allah.
