FAS TO LAUNCH INAUGURAL WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE

The following is the immediate press release from the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) about the incoming Women’s Super League

The Football Association of Selangor (FAS) is pleased to announce the launching of the Women’s Super League, the first-ever women’s competition to be organized in the state.

The event will be held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Center on 20th November 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. where not only a draw for the competition will take place but there also will be a presentation of the teams who will compete in the league as well as the league’s official launch by the president of FAS, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia (DYTM) Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

Prior to the draw, a forum will be held discussing women’s football titled “The Future of Women In Football” featuring Keshika Rao from the Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) Sports Ambassador, Zaireen Zahudi, Faculty Sport Science & Recreation (UiTM Seremban), and national football player Steffi Sarge Kaur along with a keynote speech delivered by the FAS Secretary-General, Izrin Nabil.

“This will be a historic event for FAS. For the first time in the history of the organisation, the FA will be launching our very first FAS Women's Super League. The potential we have in Women's Football is massive and the league will become a huge component of the women’s football ecosystem by providing a quality, competitive and safe platform for women to compete,” says Izrin

“On the 20th of November, FAS along with our stakeholders will pledge to elevate women’s football in Selangor as we launch the League coupled with long term strategies to take the women’s game to greater heights,” Izrin adds further on what to expect in the launch,”

“Women in football find themselves largely forgotten and even more so since the pandemic began. Hopefully, the platform given to women footballers in the form of the FAS Women’s Super League will not only help realize women’s potential on the pitch but also open up new doors for more women to play or get involved in the sport,” says Steffi Sarge Kaur, Captain of MBSJ FC and the National Women’s Team for the last AFC Women’s Cup Qualifier.

The Women’s Super League is slated for kick-off on 29th November 2021 with the finals to be held on 19th January 2022.
