Masters Football League 2021/22
The Masters Football League (“MFL”) 2021 season finally came to an end on 27 March 2022. This eighth MFL season was interrupted by a pandemic, lockdowns, movement restrictions, field closures, historic & devastating Klang Valley floods, some of the worst thunderstorms in recent years as well as teams losing players to quarantine towards the season end but nearly all the participating veteran teams managed the discipline, focus and perseverance to stay the course and complete the season. Most of the teams field players ranging from 40 to over 50 with some players still actively playing in the league after 60 years of age and what some players may lack in speed they make up for in spirit and experience.
After a long stop-start season, MFL Blue Division (over-40 years old) was once again won by Desa Hartamas FC, by a comfortable 9 points margin from their perennial rivals, BRS united (second on 40 points) and Team Sporting Reida (third on 38). The top scorer in Blue Division is Chia Woon Kit (Desa Hartamas FC with 21 goals), followed by Axel Sadler (Minzoku Lions with 14 goals) and Rezan Husain (Desa Hartamas FC with 12 goals).
MFL Red Division (over 45 years old) was a closer affair with the winners, Otai Bukit Jelutong FC pulling away only in the final 3 matches to win the division by 6 points from the second placed OFAKLS FC, who themselves edged third placed Beluga FC by 1 point. Red Division’s top scorers are Amir Sharifudin Muhamad (Otai Bukit Jelutong FC with an impressive 23 goals) followed by Mohd Fhazly Mat Yusop (UUM Alumni FC) and Muhammad Isa Masbol (MOB FC) both with 17 goals respectively. Fairplay Trophies were won by BRS United (Blue Division) and SJI88 FC (Red Division). MFL applauds and thanks not just the winners but all the participating teams and players.
