Empowering Communities Through Sports: A Collaboration with Think City's K2K Program

On July 9, 2023, from 7 am to 1 pm, our organization, padangbolasepak.com - REKREASI (PBS-Rekreasi), in collaboration with the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) coaches, successfully conducted a futsal clinic at PPR Seri Selangor, Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. This event occurred as part of Think City's Kita Untuk Kita (K2K) program. The open day of K2K at PPR Seri Selangor was held on July 9, 2023.

K2K is a program initiated by Think City, in partnership with the World Bank, to facilitate poverty eradication and reverse the social, economic, and physical deterioration in public housing schemes.

We chose to organize a futsal/sports clinic because there is already an existing community managed by Coach Sya and Mr Zaimi, which consists of over 50 children. This space allows children to have fun and learn important life values through the beautiful sport of futsal.

The support of the FAS during the open day was crucial to the event's success. The children, wearing their local PPR Seri Selangor jerseys, felt special as they received coaching from FAS coaches. This also allowed knowledge exchange between the FAS coaches, namely Coach Afnan, Coach Adzlan, Coach Effandi, and Coach Sya from PPR Seri Selangor. This exchange took place from 8 am to 10:30 am.

We were fortunate to have photographer Jurnalmil present, capturing beautiful moments from the program.

Additionally, Nasriq Baharom, a former footballer from Selangor Football Club and a member of the Malaysian national football team between 2008 and 2011, including the Under 23 squad and the senior team, made an appearance to greet the children and the community of PPR Seri Selangor. He served as a great role model for the community.

We extend our gratitude to Think City for reaching out to us, PBS-REKREASI, to facilitate this program. We also express our thanks to FAS for providing coaches and to Nasriq Baharom for his presence. Lastly, we thank PPR Seri Selangor for warmly welcoming us and embracing this initiative.

This event marks the beginning of a larger initiative, and we are committed to returning to PPR Seri Selangor and more locations to continue contributing holistic and sustainable solutions. Sports can unite communities and foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among individuals from diverse backgrounds. Beyond the joy of playing football on the pitch, we recognize the broader ecosystem surrounding sports, which has the potential to create valuable career opportunities.

By organizing programs like the futsal clinic, we aim to inspire and nurture the talents and passions of young individuals, encouraging them to explore various roles within the sports industry. Sports offer avenues for careers as coaches, referees, sports administrators, sports journalists, and many other related professions. By exposing participants to these possibilities, we hope to broaden their horizons and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue their interests.

Furthermore, the values instilled through sports participation, such as teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and sporting compassion, go beyond the field's boundaries. These values serve as guiding principles that shape individuals' character and help them navigate various aspects of life. By emphasizing these values alongside athletic development, our efforts will contribute to future generations' growth and personal development.

As we continue our journey, we are dedicated to working collaboratively with local communities, organizations, and stakeholders to create sustainable and inclusive sports programs. We aim to empower individuals, particularly young people, to harness their potential and become the best versions of themselves. By nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity, and fostering a supportive environment, we aspire to create a lasting impact that extends far beyond the boundaries of the sports field.
