Back To The Roots: With Nani & Brown

adidas continued its mission to empower the next generation of footballers at Back To The Roots: With Nani & Brown — an exclusive football clinic hosted in collaboration with global partner Manchester United.

On the morning of May 28, 2025 — just hours before the big match — something truly meaningful took place. At Sayfol International School, away from the noise and bright lights, 40 young footballers aged 13 to 17 gathered for a session that felt a little more personal. A little more grassroots.

These weren’t just any kids — they were carefully selected through the nationwide Liga Suparimau programme, chosen for their passion, potential, and love for the game. And what awaited them was a once-in-a-lifetime training experience with none other than Michael Neary, Head of Manchester United Soccer Schools, Manchester United legends Luis Nani and Wes Brown, and local adidas athletes.

It was a powerful moment where global excellence met local dreams — a reminder for these young talents that their football journey is just getting started.

The session echoed adidas’ ongoing commitment to making football more inclusive and accessible, while creating real, meaningful pathways for youth to grow. Through strong partnerships — including with Manchester United and local changemakers — adidas Malaysia continues to invest in young athletes by giving them the space to learn, play, and believe in their potential.

Even before the legends arrived, the energy was already high. The kids were out on the field in groups, enjoying kickabouts, exchanging passes, and chatting with Michael Neary — all with excitement written across their faces and a bounce in their steps.

The clinic offered professional-level coaching, tailored to reflect the pace and spirit of the game at the top. Sessions included passing drills, head tennis, and wrapped up with an 11-a-side mini game — all curated by Neary to give the participants a taste of what it feels like to train like pros.

“Mentorship is a vital part of any athlete’s journey, and having these young footballers train with Manchester United legends is an invaluable opportunity. Not only will they learn technical skills and game strategies, but they’ll also gain insight into what it takes to stay resilient, disciplined, and committed to the sport they love,” said Fanny Lanctot, adidas Southeast Asia Senior Brand Director.

This initiative is part of adidas’ wider vision to level the playing field — to champion equity in sport and celebrate the power of football to unite communities. By creating access to elite-level experiences and connecting young talents with both global icons and local heroes, adidas hopes to keep young athletes inspired, engaged, and always dreaming bigger.
