Malaysian Teqball Association secures two bronze medal at Cambodia SEA Games.

Both the Malaysian teqball men’s and women’s singles clinched the bronze medal albeit teqball being an exhibition sport at the ongoing Cambodia SEA Games.

Malaysia was represented by Sharul Hameed Albarilan for the men’s singles category and Asnidah Zamri for the women’s singles category.

“As teqball is featured as an exhibition sport this time round, the two bronze that we secured will unfortunately not be included in the country’s overall medal tally. However, we are very happy with the performances displayed by our athletes, and looking forward to start working on developing the sport much further once we head back,” said KJ Siva, President of the Malaysian Teqball Association (“MTA”).

Only three categories were introduced during the sports debut at the SEA Games - men’s and women’s single, and men’s double. Teqball however, will be included as a medal tally sport in the next SEA Games in Thailand and will feature five categories in total. The two additional categories are the women’s doubles and the mix doubles.

KJ admitted that the association was expecting to bag silver for all three categories contested, especially after their promising outing at the Pre-SEA Games tournament held two weeks before the actual games. Malaysia bagged five silver medals from five different categories. “We would like to thank everyone that has supported us throughout this fearless campaign. Special thanks to DBKL and the Hungarian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur for their continuous support and backing, as well as to Let’s Play Performance for becoming our official kit supplier. We hope to have an enduring relationship with these wonderful partners.”
