Through The Eyes: Liga Gila Edition 2 (Session 2)

We’re up and running once again for round two out of four. I arrived a lot earlier than I thought. I didn’t see anyone there and only found out Khal and a few others were in a café near the UM Law Faculty building. After a chat, we make our way to the field.

Of course the usual suspects and were in good spirits. I was pleasantly surprised when my old boss, Keesh came. It’s been a while since we last met. Anyways, before kick-off, Izham made an announcement that would make Liga Gila a lot more, well… gila. The second half of matches will implement a unique rule from here on out. In this session, Walking Football rules were in play for the first 10 minutes of each match. Meaning whoever holds possession will have to walk with the ball and not allowed to run while the other players move like normal. So it will be interesting to see how everyone approaches this when we enter the second phase.

When the rule kicked in, I wasn’t surprised how every team approached this. Most of the times they play some good one-touch football and in some cases, a runner will go in so that they hope their teammate can get the ball to them. If that didn’t go to plan, a few players will go near the ball holder to provide support and ease off the pressure.

In this session, each team only scored once in each match and there were four 1-1 draws in a row. I counted at least three spurned chances that could saw one team scoring at least two in one match. Most notably was in the fourth match between The Incredibles & Toy Story. A ball was cutback and went past the keeper, but one of the Incredibles’ players somehow shot straight at the goalkeeper.

But the goal of the night surely belonged to Toy Story’s Has during the fifth match. He booted the ball from the halfway line and the keeper didn’t get his lines right and the ball went all the way in. That goal livened up to the Liga Gila name.

Some other notable goals include Monster Inc’s Solihim’s thunderous strike from the right-wing to equalize in that same match, Toy Story’s Fad dribbled into the box and slot the ball home in the second match and Zhafir of The Incredibles channeling his inner Quaresma by scoring with the outside of his boot in the first match. Let ‘s not forget Rauf getting booked for some reason in the third match, much to the humor of everyone.

Who knows what Izham might come up next to spice things up? All we can do is wait for next week. Here’s to more fun, everyone!
