K2K Juara Communities Take on the Piala Parlimen Shah Alam
On 17 October, the Piala Parlimen Shah Alam was held at Galeria Sentral SA in conjunction with Hari Bola Sepak Selangor. Organised by the Football Association of Selangor (FAS), the tournament brought together young players for a day of seven-a-side football competition.
Through the K2K Juara programme, two participating communities, PPR Lembah Subang 1 and PA Seri Selangor, took part in the tournament, with each community fielding an Under-14 team and an Under-16 team.
The competition ran from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with each team registering up to 12 players, including substitutes. Each match lasted 12 minutes, with the format and playing duration taking into account the prevailing haze conditions and the importance of limiting players’ exposure.
For the young players, the tournament was more than just an opportunity to compete. All participating players are regular attendees of K2K Juara’s weekly sports clinics at their respective communities. The tournament therefore served as a valuable opportunity for their community coaches to assess the progress made during training and observe how the players adapted to facing teams from outside their neighbourhoods.
This was particularly important for the Under-14 teams, whose players had limited experience in competitive football. Competing against unfamiliar opponents allowed the coaches to observe the players’ development beyond their technical abilities, including their physical performance, decision-making, confidence and composure under pressure.
While the results on the pitch matter, experiences like these also provide valuable learning opportunities for both players and coaches. By stepping into a more competitive environment, the children can better understand their strengths, identify areas for improvement and gain the experience needed to continue growing in the sport.
Both communities were led by coaches who completed the FAM Grassroots Coaching Course, with Coach Allen and Coach Azmi representing PPR Lembah Subang 1, and Coach Aaron leading the team from PA Seri Selangor.
Through K2K Juara, these opportunities form part of a wider effort to nurture young talent within local communities, giving children the space to learn, develop and experience football beyond their weekly training sessions.
