2024 Women’s Super League (WSL) Group Stage Draw

On 28th January, the 2024 Women’s Super League (WSL) group stage draw was held as the league returned for its third edition with an expanded format that is kicking off on the 3rd of February, where matches will be held at Arena MBSJ.

The draw included appeareances made by YB Najwan Halimi (@najwanhalimi ) in which he talked about his hopes of the ever-growing sport among women in the country and to be able to strenghten itself among the community.

There was also a forum titled Future Of Women In Football that included voices such as Azurin Mazlan, a national football player that is making waves abroad through her steady goalkeeping. Soleen Al Zoubi, the current coach of Malaysia’s Women football team, talked about the potential the country has and that the ceiling is currenlty limitless. Another is Aliaa Azlan, talking about the role and importance of women in sports business.

This year, the lineup has expanded again from 12 teams to 14 teams. However, this year will be the first time the Women’s FA Cup and the Confederations Cup will be introduced, and both competitions will use a knockout format.

Along with MBSJ, KL Spicegals, SA FC SWAT, UiTM Lioness, SSS Leopard, MBPJ FC (Rebranded from PJKita FC), Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) FC SA, SA United, and Sternen FC SA will return for the 2024 edition. Making their debuts in this year’s WSL are Perkemas FC Wangsa Maju, Penang Real CJ, FC Japan Malaysia, Galaxi Girls PJ, and Selangor FC.

Last season’s WSL was also a commercial success as more than 10,000 fans attended the matches. At the same time, our content had a total of 7.2 million reaches across social media and received mainstream coverage on the competition, with the tournament being covered on national television.
