Ladies and gentlemen, this is an attempt to correlate the hit television series Breaking Bad with Malaysian football. As you must know, I am a huge fan of that television series, because of various literary reasons. Spoiler alert. One of which, is the human story of a story of change. How a protagonist, the hero of the story, who progressively as the story told over a vast period of time becomes the antagonist of the story, the villain of the story. It is a fascinating tale of how human beings select their respective path in life, especially when life throws a wrench. That metaphorical wrench can be with good or bad, depending on how a character in that story views the situation.

In that, I think we all know some people in our respectives lives of someone who was the most compassionate people who for some reason decayed over time and transformed into someone else we entirely do not know. Some people, within redemption. Some people beyond redemption.

How does it correlate with Malaysian football? Think about it, how many people do we know in Malaysian football, be it within our own social setting or at the professional level. That we admire as heroes, then for some twist of fate, becomes villains in our own respective books, sary, yes. But in actual fact, it has happened to many of us. Be it our footballing idols or our close friend, turned enemy.

Example of a story, on a social setting, a group of friends come together, to play football for fun. Later decides with the group, to play competitively. After a string of reality checks, reality checks meaning consistent defeats, depending on the attitude and mental strength of the friendship among the group with communication skills, if they are honest and strong with each other, they can rise above the adversities. However, if they are not sincere and selfish, the friendship will splinter, hence that will create a hostile atmosphere among the group of once fun loving football friends.

I am sure a lot of us faced that, in one way or another.

How to prevent those things from happening? Obviously, everyone must put aside their own selfish ego, disregard the ‘me option’ and opt towards the ‘we option’. If you or someone else must opt the ‘me option’ due to a personal ambition, talk it out. There’s nothing wrong  with wanting to achieve individual goals elsewhere, but don’t leave with a destructive path behind and kill friendships because of misunderstanding and ego. Communication is key, honest communication is pivotal.
