Looking over the horizon and into the world cup finals. Beyond Malaysian football, I am an avid fan of German football. As a child growing up, always been fascinated by German culture and society then subsequently German football. Do take notice, around the time of supporting the German national football team. It was a painful time period to be a supporter of, ‘Die Mannschaft’, the 2000-2004 era. And at the time of writing this, on April 19, 2018, how did Germany reinvented itself after a dark period of their football history?

The following is based of several documentaries about German football as well, having read Das Reboot: How German Football Reinvented Itself and Conquered the World, book by Raphael Honigstein. It all started in Euro 2000, June 20th to be exact. The then German national football team, went out of the European Championship with a whimper. After that, immediately, over time relevant authorities in German football from all over, got together and decided the direction of German football. A crucial time period of coming together, that paid in dividends, in the form of the World Cup Trophy in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. A success birthed from tragedy, that took nation together to build up from.

From tragedy to success. Now, how many tragedies does Malaysia need to redirect itself towards a football renaissance? For a time period, after the embarrassment of the 2007 Asian Football Confederation Asia Cup. There was real hope, which later couldn’t be sustained consistently as a whole. Valiant the effort was, but it was too much to ask for a small number of genuine footballing human beings during that period of spark. Which later got extinguished by insufficient and somewhat shameful planning.

Looking on into the future, Rome was definitely wasn’t built in a day. The hopes of millions of fans wanting to taste success will take time and of course progressive planning from relevant authorities in Malaysian football. Think the fear of being optimistic is the product from the understandable anxiety of, it is going to be the same old story of rekindled hope that turns out that the ever hopeful flame from a beacon of hope into a fire that burns down every fabric of faith.

Definitely can go on and on about this. There will be a continuation about this. Just want to get this out of the way first. Until the next one.
