Through The Eyes: KV United’s Charity Initiative
What was an idea to have charity matches to raise funds to buy essentials for the homeless would have been slightly impossible, seeing that a lot of these initiatives involve a lot of glitz and glamour.
So how did these people from a club that have just made their step into the Malaysian M5 tier leagues decide to go ahead with this idea? The answer is simple.
Social Media. Along with the sheer confidence that there will be those who are instantly on board to turn up.
The KV United team came up with the idea to have 3 matches in 3 weeks, with each of the matches in the 3 venues that they also help manage; the first at Eco Ardence, Setia Alam, the second at The New Camp, Bandar Utama, and the last one at UM Park, Universiti Malaya. The concept was that those interested to play in these matches will have to pay a fee, which will be used to buy essentials for the homeless in KL, during Ramadhan. Players who registered can be of different gender and skill level. The best part? There is no need to think of color coordination during the day, as players got to wear KV United kits, both home and away.
In the name of charity, more than 50 have signed up for the matches, some for just one round, and many who have decided to go ahead and satisfy their football cravings, by registering for all 3 matches. Registered players also have the option to give more than the registration price, to which I have seen many who are more than happy to fork out a bit more for a very good cause.
Over the course of the 3 games, there were plenty of entertainment. The first game was a resounding 9-2 victory to KV Red (Away jersey) and the week after was a tight 3-2 win for KV Black (Home jersey). The final game ended in ( insert score here ).
All in all, everyone left with a smile on their face, and a chance to see what certain amateur clubs are doing, other than just playing football.
I also managed to ask Shazwan Wong, who is the President and head coach of KV United, on how he felt after the final round of charity matches ended. “As part of KVU management, I am very happy with the support throughout the 3 editions of charity matches. I also hope that the same people that have joined us for these matches will join us on the street when we actually go out and give out items.”
Shazwan also mentioned that the passing of essentials will take place during Ramadhan, and has asked the readers to stay tuned for more news regarding this
I for one will be looking forward to be part of that initiative, just as KV United’s slogan wants it to be “A Part of Us”.
